This is a story of a newly married couple.
The wife cooked a special meal for her husband that really impressed him. It was a slow roasted turkey with a spicy glazing. As she brought the food to the table, he noticed that a portion of the turkey was already cut-off. Being curious about the missing piece, the husband asked his wife about it. She looked at him and, without giving a second thought, immediately replied that she had always prepared the turkey that way, by cutting off that piece.
The husband was not appeased by her response and again asked her why was it necessary to cut off the piece. She responded by saying that she had learned that recipe from her mom, who prepared the turkey in the exact same way.
The next morning, the young wife called her mom and questioned her about their famous family turkey recipe.
She asked: “Why is it that a specific piece of the turkey has to be cut off in the preparation?”
The mom gave the same response as the daughter had given to her husband. She said that it was the exact recipe she had received from her mom and that they shouldn’t mess with a winning recipe.
Later that year, at a thanksgiving meal, the whole family gathered to celebrate. Of course, the famous family turkey was prepared and this time the granny was present for the meal. At the table, the young husband was eager to ask gran about why a specific piece of the turkey was cut off.
Without looking up she immediately answered: “Oh in my day, we didn’t have roasting pans that were big enough to carry the whole turkey, so we a cut a piece off.”
